Tips on Cleaning Mirror Tiles
We already know the uses of mirror tiles in interior design and how they can dramatically change the overall look and feel of a room. They can make the room look larger, brighten things up and at the same time, contribute to the design of the space, making it more visually appealing. With all the things that mirror tiles can do to our homes and offices, it is only fitting that we take good care of them through regular cleaning.
Here are some cleaning tips to have clean, streak-free mirror tiles:
Know your cleaning supplies.
There are a lot of cleaning aids out there but not all can be used to maintain the shine and sparkle of mirror tiles. Knowledge of what chemicals to use is very important. Do not use harsh chemicals such as bleach as these can damage the glass of mirror tiles. In some cases, chemicals can also make the tiles look hazy.
Keep it simple.
When it comes to cleaning mirrors in general, the simplest cleaning solution is the best. Don’t waste money on expensive commercial glass cleaners. In case you run out of mirror cleaning products, don’t worry – you can actually make your own.
Vinegar + water.
You can clean mirror tiles using vinegar mixed with water. Spray the solution in a clean, lint-free cloth and wipe the tiles. Dry them with another clean cloth.
Detergent + water.
A solution of water and washing detergent can also be used. Just put some washing detergent in warm water, put the solution in a spray bottle, and spray onto the mirror tiles. Wipe them dry with a clean cloth.
Rubbing alcohol
For nasty marks such as toothpaste splatters or any stubborn build-up, try using rubbing alcohol. Put some on a cotton pad and rub the spots off.
Check the mirror.
Look at the mirror tiles at a 45-degree angle. This will enable you to see if there are still scruff marks, streaks, water marks, etc. that you have missed while looking at the tiles straight on.
Other tips
- If the mirror tiles are not too dirty, cleaning them will be much easier. Just clean them with warm water on a lint-free cloth.
- When it comes to mirror tiles in a bathroom, if you want to keep them steam-free, apply a thin layer of shaving foam on the surface then wipe it dry with a lint-free cloth.
- Some also use old newspapers to remove unsightly smears and streaks. Dip the crumpled paper onto the cleaning solution and wipe the tiles. After that, you can use dry newspapers to finish the cleaning process.
- If you do not want ink stains on your hands from the newspapers, use paper coffee filters. Follow the same method as with the newspapers and the coffee filters can make your mirror tiles clean and streak-free.
- Do not place mirror tiles where the sun is shining directly on them. If the tiles are wet, the sunlight will dry them up very quickly and you will be left with streaks and ugly spots on the surface.
