5 Ways to Add Lights in the Bathroom Mirror

Light is important in the bathroom. If you have a dark bathroom or your bathroom unfortunately doesn’t have windows, it’s time to add lights. Adding lighting to your bathroom mirror can enhance both its functionality and aesthetic appeal. Here are some ideas on how to put lights in your bathroom:

Overhead lighting. Install overhead lighting fixtures above or around the mirror. This can be in the form of ceiling-mounted fixtures, recessed lights, or track lighting. Make sure the lighting is positioned to minimize shadows on your face when using the mirror. The standard height for an overhead lighting in the bathroom is 75 inches to 80 inches from the floor, above the mirror.

Wall sconces. Mount wall sconces on either side of the mirror to provide additional illumination. Choose fixtures with shades that direct light both downward and outward to reduce glare and create a flattering light. Make sure that the sconces are installed at the right height to illuminate your face when facing the mirror.

Backlit mirror. Create a backlit effect by installing LED light strips behind the mirror. This can be done by attaching the light strips to the back of the mirror frame or using a specially designed backlit mirror kit.

Rechargeable light bars. Install rechargeable light bars on either side of your existing mirror. These bars can be mounted directly onto the wall or attached to the mirror frame. Lighted panels come in various styles, including ones with adjustable brightness and color temperatures.

Dimmer switches. Install dimmer switches for your bathroom lighting to adjust the brightness according to your needs and mood. This allows you to customize the lighting level for tasks like applying makeup or shaving.

When adding lighting to your bathroom mirror, ensure that all electrical work is done safely and in compliance with local building codes. If you’re unsure about wiring or installation, it’s best to consult a qualified electrician.
