5 Tips for Green Mirror Cleaning

Cleaning mirrors should be a task that you do on a regular basis; at least once a month for mirrors in the living or dining room; and twice a month for frequently used bathroom mirrors. Keeping your mirrors clean lets you enjoy the practical and decorative functions of the mirrors, and cleaning avoids dirt from solidifying and leaving a permanent stain on the glass. A mirror, especially a large mirror, or a custom made one, is an investment and you should protect it so your get your money’s worth.

Mirror cleaning need not be an expensive chore nor a taxing task on the environment. Leave out those chemically laden cleaning solutions! There are many eco-friendly ways to clean mirrors which are also easy on the wallet. Here are tips for a green mirror cleaning:

1. Vinegar and water.
Put equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Vinegar is a safe and natural disinfectant that can effectively clean your mirrors. Spray some of the solution on a clean rag or microfiber and wipe your mirror. Gently rub the surface to remove water stains and fingerprints. Don’t worry of the vinegar’s sour smell, it will disappear once the surface dries.

2. Lemon juice and water.
Mix 4 tablespoons of lemon juice to a half gallon of water. This solution can replace those ammonia-based glass cleaners. Your mirror will smell clean and be shiny after cleaning it using this mixture.

3. Rubbing alcohol.
Every household has rubbing alcohol in their medicine cabinets, which makes it convenient when you’re cleaning the bathroom mirror. Put a small amount of rubbing alcohol on microfiber and wipe off spots and smudges on the mirror. The rubbing alcohol also disinfects the glass and leaves a streak-free surface.

4. Baking soda.
Baking soda is a cheap and versatile product that you not only use in cooking, you can use it as a natural cleaner, as well. Dash a small amount of baking soda on a dry cloth and use it to rub off water stains on a mirror.

5. Old newspapers.
Don’t just throw away old newspapers. Use it to clean mirrors, windows, and other glass surfaces. Crumple old newspapers and dampen it with water to wipe away streaks and stains off the mirrors. You may have to replace the newspaper frequently as you rub the glass to prevent leaving small pieces of wet newspaper on the mirror.

Keep a habit of cleaning your mirrors with these easily available items. You have no excuse to postpone mirror cleaning since you most likely have at least one of these items at home.
